Traditional Hanfu Dress Back in Fashion
About 300 days a year. Zhu Yan wears long, flowing robes with big sleeves, a skirt-like lower dress and a belt at her waist. Her long hair is tied in a variety of elaborate styles, including loose buns(发髻).
Zhu has been wearing such clothing for about seven years and has more than 200 outfits in her closet. "I feel completely myself when wearing hanfu," said the 26-year-old. "I'm proud that we have such beautiful traditional clothes."
Wearing hanfu costumes and reviving the culture has become increasingly popular, especially among the younger generation. Recent estimates suggests that there are more than two million keen admirers of hanfu in China. Their average age is 21, with 52% aged between 19 and 24.
There are two main types of hanfu costumes. One is made by strictly following traditional patterns and is usually reserved for special occasions. The second type, which can be worn in everyday life, keeps the general traditional patterns but involves modern elements. Prices range from a few hundred to tens of thousands of yuan per costume.
According to Coco Wu from a market research company, part of the reason for the increasing popularity of hanfu is people's growing confidence in their own culture. That's closely related to country's rapid economic growth and continued efforts to promote cultural development in recent years. Moreover, the huge differences between hanfu and modern clothing can offer people "novel experiences" and a sense of travelling back in time to an older civilization and cultural roots.
Task 1: Answer the questions.
1. Zhu Yan usually wears hanfu about 300 days a year, doesn't she?
Yes, she does.

2. How did Zhu Yan feel when she talked about wearing hanfu?
She felt completely herself when wearing hanfu and was proud that Chinese people have such beautiful traditional clothes.

3. Who is the main group of people that makes wearing hanfu and reviving hanfu culture popular?
The younger generation.

4. What may the price of a hanfu costume range?
It may range from a few hundred to tens of thousands of yuan per costume.

5. If you had the chance to wear hanfu, would you choose the traditional-style one or the modern-element one? Why?
I would choose the modern-element hanfu for daily life, because it combines traditional beauty with practicality, allowing me to experience hanfu culture while not affecting my daily activities like commuting or studying. / I would choose the traditional-style hanfu for special occasions, because strictly following traditional patterns makes it more ceremonial; wearing it on important days (like festivals or family gatherings) can make the occasion more meaningful and show respect for traditional culture.
