Once upon a time, there was a little horse who lived on a farm. One day, his mother asked him to take a bag of corn to the mill(磨坊) on the other side of the river.
When he arrived at the river, he stopped. The water looked deep(深的) and fast. He didn't know if it was safe to cross the river.
He asked a cow nearby, “Is the river deep?” The cow said, “Not at all! I cross it every day. It only reaches my knees.” Then he saw a squirrel(松鼠) and asked the same question. “Oh no!” said the squirrel. “The river is very deep. It almost drowned(淹死) me!”
The little horse became confused(困惑的). Who should he believe? He wanted to go back, but then he remembered what his mother said—Don’t be afraid to try. You’ll never know before you test it yourself.
So the little horse stepped carefully into the river. It was a little cold, but not too deep. He walked through it safely and felt proud. From that day on, he learnt to not only listen to others, but also think on his own.
