An old man went to the doctor to ask some questions about his wife's hearing. The old man was worried that she was going deaf, as it seemed difficult for her to hear him speak. The doctor suggested a test to find out exactly how bad her hearing was.

The old man then returned home. He was anxious to find out the truth. He saw that his wife was cooking dinner. While standing about 15 metres behind her, he asked, “What's for dinner, dear?” But he got no response.
He moved closer, standing about 10 metres away from her. He asked her the same question, but she still didn't answer. He then moved to 5 metres away and asked her the question again—but once again, she didn't reply. Fearing what would happen next, he moved until he was just 1 metre away from her. He asked her one more time, “What's for dinner, dear?”
His wife yelled back at him, “Why did you ask me so many times? I've already told you! We're having lasagna(意式千层面) for dinner!”
