No matter who we are, where we are, or what we do, we cannot live without water. It is the source(源泉)of all life and we need it every day. But in truth we're facing serious water problems.

Although water covers 71 percent of earth's surface, we can only use a very small amount of it. Only about 3 percent of the world's water is fresh water. It comes from lakes, rivers and underground. Today, there are over 663 million people living without safe water close to home, according to the United Nations.
To remind people of the importance of water, the UN first set World Water Day in 1993. It is held on March 22 each year.
According to the UN, wastewater problem makes water shortages(短缺) even more serious. Instead of letting it pollute the environment, the industries need to treat it first. People from different countries also have their own tips for saving water and reusing wastewater.
• Turn off the water while brushing. South Africa is one of the world's driest countries. The website gives some tips on how to save water in the bathroom. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth and save 1,000 liters a month.
Collect rainwater.
Collecting rainwater is an important way to save water in Germany. Most houses built in the last few years have rainwater collection systems. If you don't have one, just put a bucket(桶) under your roof(屋顶) when it rains.
• Keep the grass longer. Most Australians have a grass lawn(草坪) around their home. Nature Conservancy Australia says it is best to keep the grass longer. That way the grass covers the soil and reduces water evaporation(蒸发).
China takes action to deal with water problems, too. As students, we should also try our best to fight against the problem of water waste. Let's move!
