When I tell people about my job, they always show the same feeling: surprise. I'm a plumber, and I'm a woman. People seem to have a fixed idea of what a plumber should look like, and it would never be a woman in her 30s.

By the time I'm packing up my tools, they're usually friendly and thankful. I've even had some customers tell me that I'm the best plumber they've ever had.
I'm proud of what I do. It's a skilled, important job. I hope more people can look beyond the fact that I'm a woman and just see a worker doing her job well. Don't let what people think stop you. If you enjoy the work and you're good at it, that's all that matters.
