2026年作业本浙江教育出版社八年级英语下册外研版第33页答案
C
When I tell people about my job, they always show the same feeling: surprise. I'm a plumber, and I'm a woman. People seem to have a fixed idea of what a plumber should look like, and it would never be a woman in her 30s.

I didn't plan to become a plumber. I used to work in an office and I was bored. I wanted to do something practical, something with my hands. My dad was a great DIYer, and I'd always enjoyed helping him around the house. So, I decided to give it a try. Then, I found I really loved the problem - solving, the physical work, and the sense of achievement when I successfully fixed things.
But a woman in a job mostly done by men has many challenges. When I first go to a customer's house, especially if an older man answers the door, I often see a look of confusion(困惑). Sometimes, they'll ask, "Is the plumber coming later?" or "Are you here to help the plumber?" I just smile and say, "I am the plumber."
Once I start working, their attitude usually changes. They see that I know what I'm doing. I can lift heavy heaters, go under sinks, and fix their leaky pipes(泄漏的管道). By the time I'm packing up my tools, they're usually friendly and thankful. I've even had some customers tell me that I'm the best plumber they've ever had.
I'm proud of what I do. It's a skilled, important job. I hope more people can look beyond the fact that I'm a woman and just see a worker doing her job well. Don't let what people think stop you. If you enjoy the work and you're good at it, that's all that matters.
