四、完形填空
Cathy double-checked the words on her spelling test. If she got 100 points today, she would win a new book. Also, Ms Miller had promised (允诺) to do a handstand (倒立) 1 anyone got a perfect score.
After grading the test papers, Ms Miller walked into the classroom. Then, as if she were an Olympic gymnast(体操运动员), Ms Miller threw both her 2 into the air.
“Congratulations, Cathy! You did it!” she announced (宣布) while she was upside down. The whole class 3! Ms Miller gave Cathy her prize (奖品). It was a book with the words: “To Cathy Carter, for her perfect score in spelling.”
After she got home, Cathy showed Mum her spelling test paper and prize. Mum was 4. “Well done, Cathy.” Mum hugged(拥抱) her. Cathy was so happy that she lifted up her cat and said to him, “Can you spell ‘nicely’, Jasper? And ‘quickly’ and ‘honestly’, and...”
Honestly? Cathy checked the test paper and found she spelt it wrong. She thought to 5 again and again, “Shouldn’t Ms Miller be more 6 when grading the test? It wasn’t my fault (错误). Should I keep it 7? If I put the missing ‘t’ back in, no one would know...”
The next morning, Cathy got to school 8 than usual. Ms Miller was unlocking (开锁) the classroom.
“I can’t keep this. I misspelled ‘honestly’ and you didn’t catch it,” Cathy said with her head down, giving her teacher the spelling paper and the book.
For a moment, Ms Miller stood, reading the words on the book. Then she took out her pen, crossed out the word “perfect” and wrote another word 9 giving back the book to Cathy.
Cathy felt surprised. “I get to keep this?” She looked at the book and found Ms Miller wrote “ 10 ” on it.
“For ‘honestly’, no,” Ms Miller smiled. “But for ‘honesty’, yes.”
