international motorcycle fans until March 28, 2026. On that day, a French rider, riding a Chinese motorcycle made by "Zhang Xue Motor", won the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) in Portugal(葡萄牙). This was the first time that a Chinese brand had won this top-level race, breaking the long monopoly of European, American and Japanese brands.
Miles away in Chongqing, Zhang Xue stood among the crowd, watching it happen. Then he broke down in tears. "I've been waiting for this moment for 20 years," he said.
Zhang Xue was born in a poor village in Hunan in 1987. He dropped out of school at 14 and became a mechanic(修理工) in a repair shop. When he was 19, he rode a broken motorcycle in the rain for over 100 kilometers just to catch a TV reporter and ask for a chance to show his skills. "I just wanted to be closer to the racing motorcycles," he said.
In 2013, Zhang moved to Chongqing alone with 20,000 yuan and started his business by selling motorcycles. In 2017, he set up Kaiyue Motor with a business partner. The number of motorcycles they sold every year rose from 800 to 30,000. In 2024, Zhang started his new company, "Zhang Xue Motor", in Chongqing. He knew that without self-developed engines, Chinese brands would always be controlled by others. So he put all his money and energy into developing a powerful engine. Many people laughed at him, saying that a mechanic couldn't make world-class racing motorcycles. But Zhang didn't argue. He just worked day and night in the factory with his team.
Now, his dream has come true. Orders for his motorcycles have doubled. His story proves that with true love and hard work, an ordinary person can also stand on top of the world.
