2025年创新优化学案八年级英语上册译林版第122页答案
四、阅读理解
Rainforests cover 6% of the earth's surface. There are rainforests in many parts of the world, but the biggest forests are in South America, Africa and South-east Asia. There aren't any rainforests in Europe or North America.
About 75% of all the kinds of animals we know live in rainforests. Thousands and thousands of animals live in rainforests. There are many beautiful birds, insects and so on. Many of them live in the trees, over 30 metres from the ground. The tallest trees can grow as high as a 10-story building! There are also thousands of different plants. 1/4 of them are tall trees! It is always hot in a rainforest and the ground is always wet! It is also very dark there. Scientists believe there may be millions of undiscovered species (物种) there!
Rainforests are very important for us. We need them! The trees and other plants in the forest help make the air clean. They are like the earth's natural air purifiers (净化器). They also help control (控制) the soil! They give us wood, rubber, fruits and many of our medicines. Without rainforests, our planet would be a very different place.
Unluckily, in many places, the rainforests are in danger. For example, many years ago, there was a large rainforest in Java, but now it's almost gone. The rainforest area is getting smaller now in many other parts of the world. Every minute, an area of rainforest the size of a football field is destroyed! We can never imagine a world without rainforests. If rainforests disappeared (消失) from the earth, we would find no trees, flowers or fruit. What's more, we wouldn't get clean air, and we wouldn't find any animals. The worst result would be that we wouldn't find any humans. It's time to take action to save rainforests. Every small action to protect them counts!
