The Spring Festival is China’s most famous cultural symbol. What customs of this old festival will you introduce to foreign friends? 春节是中国最有名的文化名片。你将向外国友人介绍这个古老节日的哪些习俗呢？

What You Do
Step 1
People clean their houses before New Year’s Eve to sweep away bad luck and get ready for good luck.人们会在除夕之前打扫屋子来扫除晦气，准备迎接好运。
Step 2
People buy ingredients for the New Year’s Eve dinner. They also buy new clothes and other things for the Spring Festival. 人们购买年夜饭的食材。他们还会买新衣服和过年需要的其他物品。
Step 3
The character Fu means good luck. The Chinese word for “arrive” sounds the same as “upside down”. So some people put up the character Fu upside down to welcome good luck. People put up the Spring Festival couplets to express their wishes, too.福字代表“福运”。中文的“到”与“倒”同音。因此一些人倒着贴福字来迎福运。人们也张贴春联来表达他们的期望。
Step 4
People also hang red lanterns, and put up paper cuttings and New Year paintings. Some people put up door gods on their doors to pray for safety. 人们还会挂红灯笼、贴窗花、贴年画。有些人会在门上贴门神来祈求平安。
Step 5
People get together and have a big dinner. Adults give red envelopes to children. Children wear new clothes and set off fireworks and firecrackers. They can also watch dragon and lion dances. 人们聚在一起吃一顿丰盛的晚餐。大人们给孩子们发红包。孩子们穿上新衣服，放烟花爆竹。他们还可以看舞龙和舞狮。
