开放回答
Why was Deng Jiaxian great?
Because he loved his country and worked hard to make China stronger and safer. He helped China develop atomic and hydrogen bombs.

答案

1. A 解析 由文中“Deng Jiaxian ( 1924—1986 ) was a great nuclear scientist, known as China’s ‘Two Bombs Hero’ for developing atomic and hydrogen bombs (氢弹)”可知,邓稼先被称为“两弹元勋”,A选项正确。B选项“Medical Hero (医学英雄)”和C选项“Space Hero(太空英雄)”均不符合原文描述。
2. B 解析 文中提到邓稼先生于1924年,并由文中的“In 1948, Deng went to the US to study for his doctor’s degree in physics”以及“He earned his doctorate in physics in only two years”可知,他1948年赴美,两年后即1950年获得博士学位,1950 - 1924 = 26,所以他获得博士学位时26岁,B选项正确。
3. B 解析 由文中的“Although Deng was the youngest person in his class, he never wasted time. He earned his doctorate in physics in only two years. His classmates called him the ‘Baby Doctor’”可知,因为他是班里最年轻的,且用很短的时间就获得了物理学博士学位,所以同学们叫他“娃娃博士”,B选项符合文意。A选项“他看起来像个婴儿”和C选项“他喜欢婴儿”均与原文不符。
4. B 解析 根据常识以及原文对邓稼先回国后为中国研制两弹的描述可知,他没有永远留在美国,故A选项错误;结合文中提到的“He loved to study at an early age”“Deng studied hard and entered university in the end”“Although Deng was the youngest person in his class, he never wasted time”等内容可知,他学习很努力,故C选项错误;文中第一句明确提到“developing atomic and hydrogen bombs(氢弹)”,说明他为中国制造原子弹,故B选项正确。
开放回答: Because he loved his country and worked hard to make China stronger and safer. He helped China develop atomic and hydrogen bombs.(答案不唯一,合理即可)
