How do you want your eggs? Someone might ask that question at breakfast. It can be tricky if you've never thought about it before, and there are many ways to cook eggs!
One popular way kids like is “scrambled”, which means the cook breaks the eggs and mixes the whites and yolks together. If you cook them for a short time, they are soft scrambled—just a bit runny. But if you cook them for a longer time, you can make an “omelet”—you have to fold the hard scrambled eggs, but don’t mix them up. They can get a bit dry, and you will just have a folded, hard filling.
Another favourite way to cook eggs is “sunny side up”. It means the egg is fried on one side until the edges turn brown, and the yolk looks like the bright yellow sun. If you turn it over and cook it a little longer, you can get an “over easy” egg. If you want to be less runny, you can continue cooking it—for an “over medium” egg, you still don’t turn over. Over hard, eggs are fried until the whites are fully cooked and the yolks are also cooked even longer until the whites and yolks are fully cooked.
If you want to take an egg for lunch, try a “hard boiled” egg. You can peel it and eat it as a snack or cut it up for a salad. For a “soft boiled” egg, you can cook it for about 10 to 12 minutes.
