Zhao Yicheng stood ready at the 2025 National Speed Climbing Competition. In front of him was a 15-metre-high climbing wall. It looked challenging, but the 15-year-old wasn’t nervous. He knew he could win. In fact, he hoped to break his own(自己的)best of 4.7 seconds(秒).
At the sound of a beep, Zhao set off. People cheered loudly as the result came out: 4. 656 seconds. “I knew I’d make it,” Zhao later said.
Zhao’s journey on the climbing wall began when he was five. One day, his mother took him to a climbing club. The boy liked the sport after he tried it. He started to practise every weekend from then on. In 2023, Zhao began to receive professional training(专业训练). During his first winter training, his score improved from 5.4 seconds to 4.99 seconds.
Zhao is also a book lover. He believes that a strong body is not enough. A smart mind is also very important and reading can help him think more deeply.
Because of his age, Zhao can’t enter international competitions until next year. But that’s not really a big problem for him. The boy is using the wait to get ready. Who knows? Perhaps soon, he’ll break his own best again!

It is late at night. You are sleeping in your bed. The only light is coming from the moon and a few streetlights. It seems like the whole world around you is asleep. But is it?
Animals at Night
There are many things happening out there at night. Many animals move around to find food while we sleep. These animals are nocturnal(夜间活动的) animals. You may see some nocturnal animals during the day but most spend the day resting and sleeping.
Nocturnal animals use all their senses(感官) when they are out at night. But some senses are more important than others. Some animals, such as owls, can see very well at night. The field mouse has a good sense of smell. It helps them find food at night. For red foxes, hearing is the most important.
Bats use sounds to find insects to eat at night. They send out the special sound while they are flying. The sound meets things and goes back to bats' ears. With the sound, bats can know where the food is.
