Passage 62 Will we run out of water one day?
/5
Do you know why Earth is called the "Blue Planet"? Because water covers up to 70% of the surface(表面)! However, there are still millions of people who have to walk for over half an hour to get clean water. Why is it so ▲ for them to get clean water? Will we run out of water one day?
Most of the water on Earth is too salty for us to use. In fact, only 2.5% of the water on our planet is fresh water(淡水). But we cannot use all of the fresh water. How much fresh water can we use? The answer is less than 1% of the water on our planet!
Luckily, our planet is very good at holding on to water. When water turns into water vapour(水蒸气), it doesn't fly into space. Because the atmosphere(大气层) is very cold, the water vapour condenses(凝结) and falls back to the ground.

The amount of fresh water on Earth stays about the same. However, the number of people on this planet is growing. So more and more people won't get enough clean water. If we don't change the way we use water, this problem will become even worse in the future.

Passage 62
1. A 【细节理解】由文章第一句“Do you know why Earth is called the ‘Blue Planet’?”
2. A 【推理判断】由上文的“However, there are still millions of people who have to walk for over half an hour to get clean water.”
3. B 【细节理解】由文章中的“In fact, only 2.5% of the water on our planet is fresh water.”
4. B 【细节理解】由文章中的“Because the atmosphere is very cold, the water vapour condenses and falls back to the ground.”
