My brother, August, is like the sun. My mum, dad and I are like planets that move around him. The only one who doesn't move around August is our dog Daisy, because to her, August's face looks just like anyone else's face. To Daisy, all our faces look the same, flat and pale like the moon.
I'm used to how things are in our family. I understand that August is special and needs extra care. If I was making too much noise while playing and he needed to nap, I knew that I had to play quietly because he had treatments(治疗) and needed rest. If I wanted my mum and dad to watch me play football, I knew that they might not be there because they were taking August to his therapy(治疗) or a doctor.
My parents always say that I am very understanding. I just know that there is no point in complaining. I have seen August after his surgeries(外科手术) with his face bandaged(绑着绷带的) and his body full of tubes(管子). After seeing that, it feels silly to complain about small things like not getting a toy or missing a school play. I knew this even when I was six. No one told me; I just knew.
So, I get used to not bothering my parents with small things. I learn to do things on my own, like how to put toys together and how to stay ahead in school. I never ask for help with homework. If I have trouble with a subject, I study it on my own until I understand. I do every school project by myself. When they ask about school, I always say "Good", even if it isn't true.
