Saving Zhao by Attacking Wei
In 354 BC, Wei attacked Zhao and surrounded(包围) its capital. Zhao's army was not strong enough to fight back, so Zhao quickly sent someone to ask Qi for help.
The King of Qi believed Sun Bin was the most suitable person to be the commander(指挥官). "You are the best person for the job," the king said. But Sun Bin refused. "My lord, I'm not the right person," he said. "My feet were hurt. I'm not able to lead our men." The king then gave the job to Tian Ji. Sun Bin, instead, worked as an advisor and travelled around in a wheelchair(轮椅). The two made their plans together.
Tian Ji wanted to take the army straight to Zhao to fight against Wei. But Sun Bin disagreed. "To stop a fight, it's no use being part of it," he said. "We should avoid Wei's main forces and attack their weak points."
"Good thinking. But what are their weak points?" Tian Ji asked.
"Their strongest men have travelled long and far to Zhao," Sun Bin said with a smile. "They must be very tired now. Those who stay at home are older and weaker."
Tian Ji followed Sun Bin's clever plan. When the Wei army heard their own country was under attack, they had to retreat(撤退) from Zhao at once. In this way, Qi successfully saved Zhao and also made Wei much weaker.
