Gu Jingzhou is famous for making excellent zisha pots. He was born in 1915 in Shangyuan Village, Yixing City, Jiangsu Province.
In 1933, Gu Jingzhou started to learn zisha skills with his grandmother. He learnt all the traditional skills from his family and other technicians working in his family workshop. He also used his knowledge of Chinese culture in zisha making. Soon he became well-known for his wonderful zisha products.
When he was 20, he was invited by the Lang's Gallery in Shanghai and made many copies for the ancient zisha masters' products. His duplicated(复制的) zisha pots had very high artistic achievement(成就) and many customers even thought they were better than the originals.
In 1954, Gu Jingzhou helped the government set up the Tangdu Pottery Co. He was the teacher of the new zisha makers training programme. Many of his students later became famous zisha masters in China.
In 1958, he took part in the innovation(创新) of zisha technique and designed many new zisha tools.
In 1988, Gu Jingzhou was honoured with the National Traditional Art Master of China. This is the highest honour of Chinese zisha makers. He was considered as one of the greatest zisha Masters in the history.
