(2026·南京期末)Little kids think a month is a very long time—especially when they are waiting for something. When it is Christmas, that month feels even longer.
My little brother Alfie, six years old, is very excited these days, because he is waiting for Santa to bring him a special toy, a Diggity Dog. He talks about it every day.
“What is Santa bringing you?” people ask Alfie. “A Diggity Dog!” he says every time. He is sure Santa will bring it. Mum tries hard to look for it in shops and online, but she finds nothing. My parents are worried. They do not want Alfie to be sad on Christmas Day, so they plan a different gift.
One day in December, we visit an animal centre. We choose a real dog. His name is Elmo. He is not very big, but he is very friendly. He wags his tail and looks happy.
Mum and Dad talk to Alfie. They say Santa cannot bring Diggity Dogs to all children. But they have a special surprise. When Alfie finds Elmo at home, his eyes open wide. “Is he ours?” he asks in a soft voice.
Now, Alfie loves Elmo very much. He plays with him every day. On Christmas morning, Alfie gets a new coat and boots for walking Elmo. Elmo gets dog treats and a warm coat too.
Elmo brings us joy every day, with his wet nose and his warm ways. What they say is really true. A dog is actually for life not just for Christmas.
