Social media has become a big part of teenagers' daily lives. Some people suggest that the UK government should restrict (限制) teenagers' use of it. Many people talk about whether we should restrict teens to using it. Three people shared their ideas.
Emma, a 15-year-old student, thinks it's necessary to restrict teenagers' use of social media. "It's easy to chat with friends and share daily stories on social media. It helps teens stay in touch with their friends closely, though," says Emma.
"Teens can easily lose control and get addicted(成瘾的) to it—I once spent three hours watching short videos online and totally forgot to finish my homework." Besides these, she thinks some made-up life posts online will make many teens feel their own lives are not good enough.
Mr. Brown, a social media researcher, doesn't agree with strict restrictions on teens' use of social media. He thinks social media helps teens connect with their friends easily, though it may take up their study time. In addition, he thinks social media can help teens learn useful skills like drawing and English from online videos.
Lisa, a teacher, holds a different view and suggests proper guidance instead of a full restriction or free use. She says, on the one hand, social media is a convenient tool for teens to communicate with friends and keep in touch with their friends' daily lives. But on the other hand, she finds it hard for teens to get away from it, and many even stay up late for it. And it wastes their study time. Social media can help teens get news in time and relax after long hours of study, but some care too much about online communication and leave behind real-life talks with family and classmates.
