(江苏泰州月考)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之成为一篇完整的短文。
Sports are more than competitions. To me, they mean growth under the care of others. I learnt this the hard way.
I used to be very shy and often felt lonely. I was afraid of physical education. My classmates often laughed at me. “Look at that girl,” they said. “Her feet don’t leave the ground when she runs!” Their words embarrassed me. Moreover, whenever there were some competitive games, no one in the class liked to have me as a team member. As a result, I often ended up looking at others enjoying their games.
Things would go on like that but for a sports meet. By mistake, my name was put on the list of the women’s 1,500-metre race. By the time people found the mistake, it was too late. My deskmate was a natural athlete. She said to me, “I couldn’t run that race in your place, because I’ve signed up for three events already.” Other girls of the class said the same.
I was dumbfounded(目瞪口呆的), 1,500 metres! Running against the best runners from other classes! And in front of students of the entire school! It would be the worst nightmare(噩梦) I’d ever have!
“You still have time to catch up because there is still one month before the sports meet,” they said.
My deskmate patted me on the shoulder, “Come on! You will run for our class! And we will train together.” Yes, this is not just for myself, but for my class too, I said to myself. But still, 1,500 metres to me was like Mount Qomolangma to a beginning climber. Every afternoon after class, my deskmate ran beside me.
One month certainly couldn’t make me a good runner. But when I was standing behind the start line, I no longer felt lonely or afraid. I saw my classmates standing by the tracks waving at me as if to run beside me.

As expected, I was almost the last to cross the finish line.

答案

With the shot of the starting gun, I rushed out and ran as fast as I could. Soon I was out of breath, my legs burning and feeling as heavy as lead. I almost wanted to stop, but when I looked up, I saw my deskmate and many classmates running alongside the track, yelling my name and cheering for me loudly. Their voices were full of sincere care, no teasing at all. I gathered all my remaining strength and kept moving forward step by step.
As expected, I was almost the last to cross the finish line. But the moment I stepped over the line, all my classmates crowded around me, handing me warm water and praising my courage to finish the race. No one cared about the ranking, and no one laughed at my poor performance. I didn't win any prize that day, but I gained far more than a trophy. I no longer felt lonely, and I finally understood the true meaning of "growth under the care of others".
