Many of us know about the harm plastic does to the environment. Few people know about the threat from the microplastics(微塑料). Scientists $\underline{1}$ them in our bodies more than ten years ago. Researchers have now found $\underline{2}$ in the human heart. Scientists in China collected tissue(组织) samples $\underline{3}$ patients getting heart surgery. They discovered tiny $\underline{4}$ of plastic from many sources. They included the plastic $\underline{5}$ used as an alternative(替代品) to glass, the polythene(聚乙烯) used in clothing and food containers, and the material used in construction.
The scientists found $\underline{6}$ of microplastic pieces in most tissue samples. Chemicals from microplastics are released into the body, which can $\underline{7}$ cancer, and cell death, among other problems. Scientists say the $\underline{8}$ person takes in around five grams of microplastics a week, or 52,000 pieces a year. Microplastics also $\underline{9}$ 39 per cent of dust particles(尘埃颗粒) in our homes. Scientists say these are almost $\underline{10}$ to remove from the body. It is becoming important to limit the amount of plastic we breathe in or swallow.
