One day, the stream tried to rush through the desert sands, but it failed.
As it crashed in the sand, it failed again. Then, the stream heard a voice from the desert, “The wind crosses the desert easily—and so can you.”
The stream said sadly, “The wind flies. That’s why it can cross.”
The voice warned, “Let the wind carry you to your goal.”
“How could that possibly work?” the stream doubted.
“Let yourself become vapour and the wind will carry you high,” the voice said. “It will drop you as rain, and you’ll form a stream again.”
The stream was afraid to lose itself. “That’s not the life of a stream. Can’t I stay the stream I am?”
“No, but your true self will stay,” the voice replied. “You call yourself a stream now, but do you even know what makes you a stream?”
The stream thought hard and then agreed. It let itself turn into vapour, and then the wind carried it high and far, carrying it over the desert until it fell as rain on a mountain far away. It formed a stream again. All doubts were gone. “I’ve found my true self,” it thought.
In life, to deal with difficulties and keep moving forward, we must be willing to give up our present form and allow ourselves to be changed. By doing this, we can keep growing into who we truly are.
