Many hobbies can give us knowledge and help us in some ways. Take three-dimensional(3D) printing as an example. 3D printing can make all kinds of things. It can make a house or a toy car.
A group of animal lovers in Brazil help the animals which are badly hurt with their hobbies. They use a 3D printer to create(创造) animal body parts. In one case, the Brazilian team used 3D printing to help a tortoise. A forest fire had destroyed(毁坏) almost all of the tortoise's shell. A shell is something a tortoise can't live without. The group named the tortoise Freddy and worked together to give her another chance to live.
First, they took photos of Freddy. They also took photos of a healthy tortoise with a complete(完整的) shell. Then, they used a computer program to design a new plastic shell for Freddy. A 3D printer created the shell. It was made in three parts and fitted together like a puzzle. The new shell was attached to Freddy's body. However, they didn't stop here. Later, they painted the outside of the shell so that it would look like a real one.
Freddy now lives with the doctor who helped save her life.
