Sarah’s Diary
On July 10th, my friends and I volunteered at a nursing home. We knew the old people there needed some company（陪伴）.
When we arrived, we were a bit shy. But the old people were so friendly, they made us feel welcome. We started talking to them, asking about their lives. They loved sharing their stories.
We also played games with them. It was fun, even though we weren’t very good at some of the games. The old people laughed and said we made them feel young again.
One old lady held my hand and said she was happy to talk to us. It made me feel good. I realized that just talking to them and being there was enough.
I learned that the old people don’t need much. They just need someone to listen and care. I want to volunteer there again and make more friends.

Today I took part in a volunteer activity in our community, and it is the most meaningful thing I did this summer vacation.
I went to the community's old people's home with my three classmates. We helped the elders clean their rooms first, then we read newspapers for them, and shared interesting stories that happened at school. We also taught them how to use their smartphones to video call with their children working in other cities.
All the elders smiled happily when we stayed with them. I felt so warm and proud after finishing the activity. I find that helping others can bring me great happiness, and I decide to go there to visit the elders more often later.
