At Jinan No. 9 Middle School, students run to new sports zones (区域) during breaks. The sports zones are near the teaching buildings. They play games there.
These zones were small, little-used corners before. Now they have table tennis tables and badminton nets.
A PE teacher said, “We had few sports facilities (设施) in the past. So students didn’t like to do sports. But now more and more students come to play sports in the new zones.”
Students also organize games by themselves. They work as referees (裁判员), scorekeepers or cheerleaders. The principal said more exercise helps students study better.
Now, many schools in China have built such sports zones. This makes students more active during breaks.
