Once upon a time, two boys, Jack and Tom, lived in a small village. They were best friends and did everything together. One day, they decided to explore a nearby forest.
As they walked deeper into the forest, they saw many beautiful trees and animals. Suddenly, a bear appeared in front of them. The boys were afraid. Jack quickly climbed a tree to save himself, but Tom didn't know how to climb. He stood frozen(僵住的), unsure of what to do.
Then, remembering something he had learned, Tom lay down on the ground and held his breath, pretending(假装) to be dead. The bear came closer, smelt him, and finally walked away, thinking Tom was not alive.
When the danger was gone, Jack climbed down from the tree. He laughed and asked, "Tom, what did the bear whisper(低语) in your ear?"
Tom looked at Jack and answered, "The bear told me to stay away from friends who leave me alone in danger." Jack felt ashamed(羞愧的) and said sorry to Tom. From that day on, Tom understood the true meaning of friendship: A friend in need is a friend indeed.
