The secret touch of plants
Most plants just stand still and enjoy the sun. But in my special greenhouse,I have two amazing plants that can "feel" the world. They are the Mimosa pudica(含羞草) and the Venus flytrap(捕蝇草).
The Mimosa pudica looks like a soft feather. If I touch it gently with my finger, something magical happens. Its leaves close immediately,and the stem drops down. It looks like a shy girl hiding her face. Scientists say this is a trick to scare away insects. After a few minutes,when it feels safe,it opens up leaves again.
The Venus flytrap is even stranger. It lives in very poor soil,so it needs to eat meat to get energy. It has a special kind of leaf that looks like a mouth with sharp teeth. When a fly lands on it,the plant feels the touch. Snap! The mouth closes in just a second! It is a real action hero of the plant world.
Plants are not boring. They can play tricks and even catch food!
