The Ant and the Grasshopper
In a forest, there lived a grasshopper and an ant who were good friends. The grasshopper was lazy while the ant was hard-working. In spring and summer, the grasshopper sat in the sun and sang happily, but the ant was busy making a house under the ground.
Soon, autumn came and the ant worked harder. He collected a lot of food and took it into his house again and again. “Why not come and sing with me?” asked the grasshopper. “It is difficult to find any food in winter, so I’m collecting food for it.” said the ant. “Don’t be silly, my friend,” laughed the grasshopper, “We’ve got enough food at present. Never worry about the future!”
Finally, winter came. The grasshopper was outside in the snow. He looked for food everywhere, but he couldn’t find anything. He felt cold and hungry, and found himself
dying of hunger. The ant knew and invited the grasshopper to come to his house. It was warm inside and there was enough food for both of them. The grasshopper thanked the ant and said, “You’re right. It’s best to prepare for the days of necessity.”
