Pound was a famous teacher at Harvard Law（法律）School. He was already 80 years old, but he still worked eight hours every day, no matter what the weather was like.
His workmate once said: “Though he was old, he kept walking from home to his office. It would take him one hour to do so, but he didn’t stop. And it made him feel successful. I really admired him. He was not only successful in his job, but also good at teaching students in interesting ways.”
One day, a student came out of Pound’s office with many books. He said unhappily: “The teacher always answers my questions with just ‘yes’ or ‘no’. He also gives me lots of books and tells me to read them again and again. I have to spend much time finding the answers by myself.”
Later, Pound heard about the student’s words. He kindly explained: “This is the method I have learnt—if you work harder by yourself, you will find better answers. If you can make good use of these books, you will probably become a great lawyer.” Pound believed “Teaching people to fish is better than giving them fish”.
Ten years later, the student became a famous lawyer. When he returned to Harvard, he met Pound again. He thanked the teacher and also gave plenty of books to Harvard.
