Names are important for Chinese people. Parents choose a good name for their baby. They think that the good name will bring good luck to their child.
Chinese surnames (family names) Chinese surnames come first. The order is different from that of the Western names. There are thousands of Chinese surnames in use today, but about half of the Chinese people use the same 19 surnames. The most common surnames are Wang and Li.
Chinese given names Most Chinese given names have meanings or good wishes. Many Chinese women's names mean "happiness" "beauty" or "wisdom". Chinese men's names often mean "strength" "greatness" or "happiness".
Funny Chinese names Some Chinese names can be very funny. For example, a man's surname is Qian(with the meaning of "money"). His full name is Qian Duo (with the meaning of "much money"). Someone has the surname Zhou("week" is one of the meanings of Zhou) and his given name is Mo(with the meaning of "end"). Then his name would mean " ▲ "!
