Chinese medical team leader in Tanzania
(坦桑尼亚) lost his life while saving a
woman. His name was Zhang Junqiao, 38.
Officials from Weifang, Shandong, where he worked, said
he lost his life on June 15.
Zhang saw a Tanzanian

woman struggling in the
sea near Dar es Salaam and
went to save her. He gave
her his life jacket. However, after he pushed her to safety,
the sea current (水流) pulled him away, and he lost his
life in the water.
Zhang arrived in Tanzania in January last year to lead
the 27th Chinese medical team. He was joined by 10 other
doctors from Shandong, and they worked at a hospital in
Dar es Salaam for two years. His hospital said he was one
of the youngest members of the team.
Many people were saddened by his death, and they
talked about it on social media. A person named Malisa
said, "Zhang gave his life to save a Tanzanian. He showed
the great friendship between China and Tanzania." Others
