B
Aunt Gertie likes to try new things. Not only does she want to try new things, but she wants me to try them too. When I see her with a wide smile on her face,I know something is about to happen. Pretty soon,Aunt Gertie is saying,“Let’s have an adventure(冒险)!”
Our last adventure together was a trip to the Hawaiian Islands. We went snorkelling(带呼吸管潜水) to see the beautiful fish and underwater plants. But the adventure didn’t start until we caught the plane to the islands. We had a lot to learn before we headed there.
We took snorkelling classes at the sports centre. We had to learn how to breathe(呼吸) with a snorkel and how to swim wearing a mask(面罩) and fins(脚蹼). We learned safety skills.
Next,we went to buy our equipment. We each got a snorkel. One end goes in our mouth and the other end sticks out of the water. We each bought a face mask to keep water out of our eyes and nose. And we got fins to wear on our feet. The fins help us have more power when we kick our feet as we swim.
At last,we were ready to go. We put our clothes and equipment into the bags and went to the airport. As soon as we landed,we checked in at the hotel. We changed our clothes and headed for the beach. We couldn’t wait to start our underwater adventure.

根据“When I see her with a wide smile on her face, I know something is about to happen. Pretty soon, Aunt Gertie is saying, 'Let's have an adventure!'"可知,当作者看到Gertie阿姨脸上灿烂的笑容时,就知道她要邀请自己去冒险了。故选D。
20. B 词义猜测题。根据“We each got a snorkel. One end goes in our mouth and the other end sticks out of the water. We each bought a face mask to keep water out of our eyes and nose. And we got fins to wear on our feet.”
根据“We took snorkelling classes at the sports centre.”“Next, we went to buy our equipment. We each got a snorkel ... We each bought a face mask ... And we got fins ...”“went to the airport”和“As soon as we landed, we checked in at the hotel.”

When talking about the butterfly effect(蝴蝶效应),people would think of Ray Bradbury’s short story A Sound of Thunder. In the story,a group of people travel back in time. One of them steps on a butterfly by accident. When he returns to the present, the world has changed completely!
The term “butterfly effect” was given by Edward Lorenz,an American scientist, who came up with it during his weather prediction research in the 1960s. In one of his weather models,Lorenz found that small changes in starting conditions created greatly different results. He compared it to the wind created by a butterfly flapping(扇动) wings in Brazil causing a storm in Texas.
Lorenz’s findings changed how scientists understand predictions. In the past, scientists thought causes(A) and effects(B) were direct(直接的) and simple(A→B). But the butterfly effect shows that real - world system is not simple. And it can be often changed by something unexpected. Therefore,it’s hard to make predictions accurately(准确地).
At the heart of the butterfly effect is that everything is connected(联系). The butterfly effect can be found in many areas. In business,a small decision can bring great changes, like drawing the interest of buyers. In nature, hurting one part of nature might destroy the whole planet.
The butterfly effect reminds us that the world is deeply connected. As the saying goes,“ ▲ ”. We must think carefully because what we are doing can shape the future!
