Ⅱ. Read and complete the tasks.
My grandma was a wonderful person. She was a zoologist, a teacher, and an author. But to me, she was just my grandma.
I have many happy memories with her. She always cooked delicious food in the kitchen. I would help set the table, and then we would all sit together to eat and listen to her stories. As I grew older, my chair changed from a highchair to a big chair at the head of the table. But the food and the stories never changed.
Then something terrible happened. A “memory thief” came into our lives without us knowing. At first, we didn’t notice anything wrong. One evening, Grandma asked, “Where have I put my glasses?” I answered, “They’re on your nose, Grandma.” She asked the same question three times that night.
As months and years passed, the memory thief visited more often. He took away more and more pieces of Grandma, leaving behind confusion and sadness. The rich story of her life—which took eighty years to create—slowly fell apart. Now Grandma is only a small part of what she used to be.
The memory thief has taken my grandma away from me. But worse than that, he has taken her away from herself. She is now like a broken shell, emptied of memories, thoughts, and words.
Piece by piece, the memory thief keeps stealing. And there is nothing I can do to stop him.
