A Terrible Flood
Last summer, a terrible flood hit
our town. It was a rainy season, and it
rained heavily for three days and three
nights. The water level kept rising, and
many houses were flooded.
When the flood came, my family
and I were at home. My dad quickly
turned off the electricity and gas. Then
he helped my mum and me to get to the
top floor of our house. We took some
food, water and warm clothes with us.
From the top floor, we could see that
the streets were full of water. Some cars
were floating in the water, and many
people were standing on the roofs of
their houses,asking for help.
Luckily,the government sent boats
to save people. The rescuers(救援人员)
worked day and night to help everyone
get to safety. They also brought us food
and water. After two days, the water
slowly went down.
After the flood, our town was in a
mess. Many houses were damaged, and
some roads were broken. But people
worked together to clean up the town.
Volunteers came to help, and the
government provided us with temporary
(临时的)housing and food.
This experience made me realise
the importance of preparing for disasters.
We should learn some safety skills and
keep emergency supplies(应急物资)at
home. Also, when disasters happen, we
should stay calm and help each other.
