Tuesday/Week 1
school chef recently won the top prize
at the Jamie Oliver Good School Food
Awards. The awards recognize those
who cook healthy food and make mealtimes a positive
experience for pupils.
Nathan Scarlett works

at Henry Cavendish Primary
School in London. "It was
such a surprise," he said.
"All the children were cheering for me."
One of the reasons why Scarlett won is that he lets
the pupils join in when he is planning meals. There is a
"meal helper" from every class. These helpers all work
with him to write the menus. Scarlett also makes cooking
fun by holding small cooking classes. In these classes, he
teaches pupils how to make different kinds of food.
When the school kitchen needed new ovens (烤
箱), Scarlett helped raise the money to buy them. At the
school's summer fair (展销会), he sold different dishes
and raised about £17,000. Scarlett says the best part of his
job is "seeing the children feel happy when they eat the
food he cooks".
Now a new school year is going to start. Scarlett says
he has already got his menus ready for this September, so
he is all ready for the new school term.
