The 32nd Zigong Dinosaur(恐龙) Lantern Festival began in Sichuan Province on January 23, 2026. It turned Zigong into a bright and magical world.
This year, there were 11 large lantern sets and more than 200 smaller ones at the festival. They were placed in 10 different themed areas. The lanterns mixed traditional art and culture with modern technology in a beautiful way.
One amazing lantern is 210 meters long. It shows the legendary Kunpeng from an old Chinese story—a huge fish that changes into a bird. Another highlight is a 180-meter-long display of Mulan, a famous Chinese heroine(女英雄). With special technology, Mulan can blink(眨眼睛) and move like a real person.
"The dinosaurs look as if they were really breathing," said Katarina, a student from Tanzania. "This is the best event I have ever seen."
This year, the festival used recycled and green materials to make the lanterns. A golden animal is made of straw, a mythical kylin(麒麟) is made of recycled medicine bottles, and a phoenix(凤凰) is made of red chilies.
The festival also used AI and other smart technologies. Visitors could take part in fun activities such as playing with singers on screens and playing with robot dinosaurs.
The Zigong Lantern Festival began in the Tang Dynasty. Since 1990, it has been exhibited in more than 80 countries. Today, it is a much-loved cultural event around the world.
