On cold winter nights when I was a boy, Mum would often let me help her make popcorn（爆米花）to eat while watching TV. 1 She would find an iron pot and light the fire under it. Then she would pour in a little oil and add some butter. Next she would put some kernels（玉米粒）in it. Together we would wait, listening to the oil sizzle until we heard the first kernel pop(爆裂). 2
After this we would all sit down in the living room, Dad and Nana in the chairs by the stove(炉子), and I, Mum, and my brothers on the sofa. 3
The fun thing is that I can't really remember a single one of the programmes that we watched on TV on those nights. What I can remember clearly, however, is the smell of the popcorn, the delicious taste of it, the warmth of the bowl on my leg, and most of all, the joy I felt with Mum cuddled up(依偎) next to me. 4 There with my family, all seemed right with the world. We didn't have a huge home, a lot of money, or even fancy snacks from the store, but we had love and that was all we needed.
