The book The Blue Bird was written by Maurice Maeterlinck, a Belgian writer. He was born on August 29, 1862, in Ghent. Maeterlinck is famous for his symbolist(象征主义风格) writing and The Blue Bird is one of his most famous works.
The story follows two siblings(兄弟姐妹), Tyltyl and Mytyl. On Christmas Eve, a fairy visits them and asks them to find the Blue Bird of Happiness. First, they go to the Land of Memory and see their dead grandparents. Next, at the Palace of Night, they open seven doors, facing many dangers. Then in the Forest, the trees try to hurt them. After many tries, when they finally return home, they find the blue bird is right there all along.
In the story, Tyltyl, the big brother, likes to explore new places. Mytyl, the kind younger sister, takes care of Tyltyl when he is scared. They look for the blue bird all the time, never giving up. By the end of their adventure, they discover that the Blue Bird of Happiness is just around them.
