Minqin County in Gansu Province lies between two big deserts. In the past, desertification(沙漠化) forced many villagers to move away. Now, people are fighting back by planting trees and grass.
Jiang Liling returned to her hometown to help with this work. She studied forestry and has worked on controlling the desert for 24 years. By last year, Minqin County had planted over 150,000 hectares(公顷) of forest. The area covered by forest has increased from 3% in the 1950s to 18% today. Jiang Liling and her coworkers go into the desert at least twice a year to guide the planting. They walk about 20 kilometres each day there. Sometimes, she stays there during sandstorms to test new ways of fighting the desert.
Since 2007, Minqin County has been returning farmland to forest. Jiang Liling helped with the plans and also talked to villagers who were unsure about the project. Her work helped protect 186 hectares of farmland, and this work also brought government funding to the villagers. She also taught people to grow a medicinal plant called cistanche(肉苁蓉) on the roots of saxaul trees(梭梭树). This brings in about 2 million yuan for villagers every year. Now, the environment in Minqin County is much better. People in Jiang Liling's village grow vegetables in greenhouses and have better lives.
"Minqin County is an oasis(绿洲) that stops the two deserts from merging. It will surely have a better future," Jiang Liling says.

解析

1. 细节理解题。根据原文第一段"In the past, desertification(沙漠化) forced many villagers to move away."可知,过去沙漠化迫使村民搬迁,本质是沙漠化让土地难以维持生存,对应C选项,其余选项原文均无相关表述。
2. 数字计算题。根据原文第二段"The area covered by forest has increased from 3% in the 1950s to 18% today.",计算可得18%-3%=15%,即森林覆盖率提升了15个百分点,对应B选项。
3. 细节理解题。根据原文第三段"She also taught people to grow a medicinal plant called cistanche(肉苁蓉) on the roots of saxaul trees(梭梭树). This brings in about 2 million yuan for villagers every year."
