A special army arrived in Australia! The museum in Perth showed “Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor”. This was the biggest Terracotta Warriors show ever held in the country. It opened on June 28, 2025 and ran until February 22, 2026.
The show included over 225 ancient exhibits from China. They are more than 2,000 years old. About 70% of these exhibits had never been to Australia before and around 40% had never left China. Visitors could see bronze (青铜) tools, colourful statues and gold treasures. Each exhibit tells us something about life long ago.
The most exciting part of the show was the army of clay (黏土) soldiers. Ten life-size Terracotta Warriors were exhibited. Each one stands about 1.8 meters tall and weighs up to 180 kilograms. Every Terracotta Warrior looks different—their faces, hairstyles and clothing are all different. They were made to look like real people. These clay warriors were built to guard the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang.
More than 2,000 years ago, Qin Shi Huang wanted to live forever. To prepare for the afterlife, he ordered his men to build a huge tomb. It covered about 56 square kilometers—about the size of a real city. Inside, he placed thousands of clay soldiers,
bronze chariots (双轮马车), many treasures and even statues of animals. Some people believe the tomb also has rivers of mercury(水银). Most parts of the tomb remain closed today.
Qin Shi Huang ruled for more than 30 years. He unified all the different parts of China into one country and created a unified system of money, writing, and weights. He also started to build the Great Wall.
“I hope visitors experience the same wonder that I did,” said Alec Coles, CEO of the museum. “The beauty, the treasure, the achievement—and a praise of what Qin Shi Huang created, not just for China, but for human history.”
