In early 2026, a 12-year-old Asian elephant named Nhi Linh had her first baby at a zoo in the USA. This was the first baby elephant born there in nearly 25 years.
Asian elephants are endangered (濒危的) animals. Fewer than 50,000 Asian elephants live in the wild now. And their number is still going down. *That's why the birth of this new baby elephant was very exciting.
Asian elephants have a very long pregnancy (孕期), about 18 to 22 months. So zookeepers looked after and checked Nhi Linh carefully every day. They were all ready for the baby elephant to arrive. It was such a happy thing to meet the lovely little elephant!
