Holidays in China have a long history. How many holidays did ancient Chinese have? Let's look back to the ancient times.
In the pre-Qin period(在先秦时期), people held special ceremonies(仪式) to give sacrifices(祭品) to the gods. These happened twice a year. Officials would have holidays during the ceremonies.
Next came the Han Dynasty. Can you believe that there were holidays for washing hair back then? It was said that officials ate and slept at offices. There they found it difficult to wash hair. So they had one day off every five days to wash their hair.

People in the Tang Dynasty enjoyed a seven-day holiday for both Chinese New Year and Dongzhi(冬至).
And people in the Song Dynasty had about 120 days of holidays! This was because the Song court(朝廷) added many temporary(临时的) holidays.
