What's the world's largest island? Where is it? It's Greenland, of course. It lies between the Arctic Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Although it means "green land", more than 84% of its area is covered by thick ice.

However, Greenland is one of the fastest-warming places on Earth at present, and this is causing big changes for the whole planet. Scientists have found that Greenland's ice is melting very quickly, adding about 0.7 millimeters to sea level every year. This melting ice doesn't just affect Greenland. It also affects the weather, ocean currents(洋流) and ecosystems all around the world. As the ice melts, new opportunities for global shipping routes and military(军事的) strategy are opening up.
Greenland is full of beautiful landscapes and interesting geography. It's a beautiful place to visit during any season. The top attractions are Whale Watching, Greenland National Museum, the Northern Lights, Dog Sledding and Snowmobile Tours.

Most of Greenland's people are Inuit, who have a special connection to the Arctic environment. For thousands of years, the Inuit people make a living by fishing and hunting. Their culture, language, and traditions show how people can get used to difficult weather and live well.
