Many children use the Internet to get useful knowledge and information, and to relax in their free time. But some of them are not using it in a good way. Here are some rules to make sure you are safe and have fun on the Internet.
Make rules for Internet use with your parents. For example, when you can go online and what activities you can do online.
Don’t give your password to anyone else, and never leak out the following information—your real name, phone number or other personal information. Check with your parents before giving out a credit card(信用卡)number. Never send a photo of yourself to someone in email unless your parents say it’s OK.
Check with your parents before going into a chat room. Different chat rooms have different rules and attract(吸引)different kinds of people. You and your parents must make sure it’s a right place for you. Never agree to meet someone you met online without your parents’ permission(允许). Never meet anyone you met online alone.
Always remember that people online may not be who they say they are. Treat everyone online as strangers. If some comments you read online make you uncomfortable, leave them at once. Treat other people as you would like to be treated. Never use bad language.
Remember—not everything on the Internet is true. It’s important for children to know how to use the Internet safely.

Long ago, there was a kind-hearted king in the Northern Song Dynasty. Emperor Taizong, Zhao Jiong, cared deeply for his people.
One year in winter, the weather was very cold. It snowed so heavily for several days that everywhere was covered with snow. The common people all hid in their homes. Besides, the firewood of many families was almost used up. Everyone was shivering(发抖)with cold.
Emperor Taizong was wearing thick clothes and warming himself by the charcoal(木炭)fire in the palace. Still, he felt a bit cold. Looking at the heavy snow outside the window, he thought in his heart, “I feel so cold even in the warm palace. Those common people must be even colder. How can they get warm through the winter?”
Very soon, Emperor Taizong ordered his ministers(大臣)to prepare thick clothes and charcoal. Then the ministers and their teams knocked on the door of every house and gave clothes and charcoal to each family.
When the common people saw the ministers coming to send them clothes and charcoal, they were all very moved and said one after another, “The emperor is really good. When we were in the greatest need of help, he brought us warmth. It is really like offering timely help!”
Since then, the phrase “offering timely help” has spread. People use it to describe giving help in time when others are in the most difficult situation and in the greatest need of help, just like sending the charcoal in the cold winter.
