新模态 访谈 Liu Hao,43,Guizhou Communications Investment Group;Zhang Yuchen,17,Ningbo No.3 High School,Zhejiang;Ye Qinfeng,13,Guanshanhu Middle School,Guizhou
Zhang: Why did you make the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge a suspension bridge(悬索桥)?
Liu: Suspension bridges are strong. They can cross very long spaces. They cost less than cable-stayed bridges(斜拉桥). Also, they don't need many supports from the ground. This is very important for Guizhou. Guizhou has karst landforms(喀斯特地貌). There are many holes and rivers under the ground in such places.
Ye: Will things like wind and rust(锈) make the bridge fall? How do you stop this from happening?
Liu: First, each main cable(主缆) of the bridge is made of 217 smaller ropes. We placed these ropes carefully so that the weight is shared equally. This makes the cables last longer. Even if a few ropes break, the cables still work. To control wind, we used one device called an eddy current damper(涡流阻尼器). It can stop the bridge from shaking in the wind. Rust is a big problem for steel. To protect the cables, we covered them with magnesium(镁). This keeps out water, salt and sunlight.
Zhang: I heard the bridge was very long. So, you built it part by part first. Then, you put the
parts together over the canyon. But the canyon is over 1,000 meters wide. How did you connect all the parts so perfectly?
Lin: We had to build everything very, very carefully—the measurement(测量) had to be perfect. Our team made a smart system using strong cables. First, we put the cables high across the canyon. Then, we hung special moving cranes(起重机) on these cables on both sides. To guide the cranes very precisely, we used the Beidou Satellite System and more than 30 cameras and sensors. These new technologies play an important role in building.
