In one case, the Brazilian team used 3D printing to help a tortoise. A forest fire had destroyed(毁坏) almost all of the tortoise's shell. A shell is something a tortoise can't live without. The group named the tortoise Freddy and worked together to give it another chance at life.
First, they took photos of Freddy. They also took photos of a healthy tortoise with a complete(完整的) shell. Then, they used a computer program to design a new shell for Freddy. A 3D printer created the shell. The new shell was attached to Freddy's body. However, they didn't stop here. Later, they painted the outside of the shell so that it would look like a real one.
