Earthquakes usually come without warning. Although it’s dangerous in an earthquake, we can still do many things to protect ourselves.
We should try to stay calm as the earth begins to shake. Then how can we make the chances of surviving go up?
If we are inside when the earthquake starts, it’s a good idea to hide under a table or a bed. And the strong table or bed can protect us from falling objects. We shouldn’t stand near the windows. Never stay in bed or use the elevator. It’s wrong to try to jump out through the windows or from the stairs.
If we are outside, we should stay in an open area. We should stay away from buildings and trees. If we are in a car, we’d better park the car and stay in it. The parking place should be a place without trees or tall buildings. If we are close to the sea, it’s clever of us to get as far away from the water as possible. Earthquakes can cause huge waves.
