Your eyes need light to see. The things you see either make their own light (like a candle or a phone screen), or reflect light from somewhere else into your eyes. Most objects reflect light.
First, light enters the eye through the front parts like the cornea(角膜) and lens(晶状体). These parts work together to focus the light onto the back wall of the eye, the retina(视网膜), which has special cells(细胞) that sense light. The pupil(瞳孔) controls how much light comes in. This allows you to see clearly and protects your eyes. The lens adjusts itself to focus on objects that are near or far—this is called accommodation(调节).
While the lens focuses light, it also turns the image upside down. This means light from the top of an object hits the bottom of the retina, and light from the bottom hits the top. The retina’s light-sensitive cells then send this upside-down picture to your brain through the optic nerve(视神经). Does your brain have to flip(翻转) it back? Not exactly—here’s why.
The image formed in your eye is upside down, but your brain does not need to flip it. First, the brain doesn’t “see” an image like a photo. It receives nerve signals that tell it what you’re looking at and where things are. Second, your brain has always worked this way—from the time you were born, it learned to understand these signals correctly. So everything looks right to you, and you can move and communicate with the world just fine.

Your eyes need light to see."
While the lens focuses light, it also turns the image upside down."
