The weather is a big part of our lives. We usually know the weather from the weather report now. But people could tell the weather from some animals 3,000 years ago.
When the rain is on the way, the ants will move their houses from the low (低的) places to the high places together. They are afraid of losing their homes because of the rain.
When it is a fine day, the frogs will come out of the water and make loud noises sometimes. But when it’s going to rain, they will stay in the water and always make loud noises like “croak, croak”.

People living on the farm can also watch the chickens to know the weather. When a heavy rain is coming, the chickens will make noises like “peep, peep” and run here and there.
If some small birds sing loudly like “tweet, tweet”, it often means the day will be sunny and warm. But the sea birds act differently. When the wind blows, the sea birds will stay on the shore(海岸). And they may stay in a tree when heavy rain is coming. But when we see them flying high in the sky, we can know it will be a sunny day.

What’s more, snakes, swallows and tortoises are also good helpers for telling the weather. When you can’t see the weather report next time, watch the animals around you!
