The polar bear(北极熊）is a kind of big and white bear. We call it the polar bear because it lives inside the Arctic Circle(北极圈). There are no polar bears in the Antarctic Circle(南极圈).
In the Arctic Circle, there is only snow, ice and water. You can hardly(几乎不）see the polar bear in the snow because its coat is nearly white. It has a very warm coat because the weather is cold in there.
Usually, the polar bear is about 3 metres long, and weighs about 450 kilograms. It can stand up on its back legs because it has very wide feet. It can use its front legs like arms. The polar bear can swim very well. It can swim 10 km/h. It catches fish and other sea animals as food. It goes into the sea when it is afraid.
Some people kill the polar bear for its beautiful white coat, and the climate change also undermines(破坏)their living environment(生存环境). Now more and more people are calling for protection of polar bear. They do not want all of these beautiful animals to die.

The salmon(大马哈鱼) is a very strange fish. It was born in the river. But the young salmon swims down the rivers towards the Pacific Ocean. And it lives in the sea and becomes full grown. Then it returns to the river where it was born.
A grown-up salmon weighs about 3.5 kilograms. The female(雌性)salmon will not spawn(产卵) in the Pacific Ocean. When it is almost time to lay them, both male(雄性)and female salmon begin a long journey. Each salmon is heading for the river where it was born. A salmon may be in a thousand miles away from where its life began, yet it is able to return to that place.
As the salmons swim, larger fish may attack(袭击) them. The salmons would be food for some other larger fish or be caught by fishermen. The rest of(剩下的)the salmons keep swimming.
After they enter the rivers, they head upstream(向上游). If rocks and waterfalls(瀑布) are in their way, the salmons leap(跃) over them. They leap by swimming at full speed under water. Almost the whole body of a salmon is made of muscles(肌肉). These powerful muscles make the salmon fit for fast swimming, turning quickly, and leaping high out of the water.
Some reach their rivers in summer, others in the early autumn. They have swum for hundreds, even thousands of miles and it has taken them weeks and months.
