Over the past 20 years, scientists have found a few very talented dogs. They can remember hundreds of toy names. They usually learn names when playing or training with their owners (主人). Some can even learn by listening to conversations (对话). Scientists chose 10 such dogs for tests.
In the first test, owners taught toy names directly (直接地) to the dogs. *It took the dogs a few days, about eight minutes in all, to remember the names. They could find the right toy from 11 toys in another room 80% of the time.
In the second test, owners talked about new toys with other family members. They repeated (重复) the toy names many times. The dogs could hear the conversation but the owners did not look at or talk to them. A few days later, the dogs could find the right toys 100% of the time.
These smart dogs are really amazing and surprising!
